来到DND之后，每每听见别人说：“这小破地方，连Mall都只有一间。”便觉得可笑。其实是不止一间的，只不过人们对于眼睛直观上看到的物体往往有先入为主的观念，不愿再动脑子去思量，甚至不愿再仔细看上第二眼。
不过话说回来，比起Meridian Mall来说，Golden Center Mall的确就像一个依附于母亲的孩子，门开得小小的，连上面的Golden Center两个字都是小小的，毫不引人注意。但它们的确是分开的两间商场。所有权分得很开，职责亦分得很开。
上个星期六，两点半休息时，我跑去停车场抽烟。电梯旁的自动门坏了，一直发出哔哔声。我抽完烟下去对Hayley说了，她发短信给Steve（我们的代班经理）让他去看。过几分钟，Steve回来了。Hayley问他有没有修好那个门。他说没有。问他为什么，他笑笑说:”That’s Meridian’s door.”由此可知，有些事物洋人是分得很开的。中国的俗话说：事不关己，己不劳心。在洋人身上一样适用。
其实我想说的全不是这些，我想说的是一个流浪汉。我第一次遇见他，便是在Golden Center Mall的Food Court。
他第一次出现在Food Court大约是开学不久后的一个周六。我去干活，Hayley问我有没有看见那个流浪汉（她原话用的是homeless man，而不是beggar，这让我觉得有些洋妞还是可爱的）。她告诉我，某店的店主“苹果”最近很苦恼，因为这个流浪汉常常去她的店子吃东西。
起初我的确有些同情Apple。倒不是因为那个流浪汉本身。而是由于其他店子的人都抱着看好戏的心态对待这事。这让我颇有些不爽。
我并不敢多看他，因为怕他觉得不好受。他的头发已经是雪白的了，衣服是尽量穿得十分整齐的了，但上面难免染着各种水洗不去的污渍。吃的是普通的西点，喝杯咖啡。有时我收拾桌椅时经过他的身边，他会对我微笑。
可是第二天我一去就听说Apple已经向总管投诉过了，说他严重影响了她的生意。这让我对Apple的印象又一次严重打折——她总是在抱怨的，抱怨所有的一切。碗碟送得晚了，她抱怨说我懒；碗碟送得快了，她抱怨我不给她时间清洗。有时候端着装满碗碟的沉重大桶站在她店门口，她却久久对我视而不见，任我在那里站到腰酸腿软才拿空桶给我换。总之。做什么都是错。其实我又不是只帮她一家做事，她却总端着架子，一付高高在上的嘴脸。
她投诉过后，总管又一级一级的向下传达命令，说他再来时，一定不能让他逗留超过一个小时。所以第二天Steve一见他来了，就频繁的过来检查，甚至在他待到四十五分钟时，对小开说：如果他再待超过十五分钟，你就去提醒他该走了。因为我已经告诉过他他不能在这里待超过一个小时的。
小开没听清他说什么（也许他也在怀疑其真实性，因为洋人在这方面一般来说都是十分宽容的），他又把原话重复了一遍。我早已听清了，可是不想理他，有些恼怒的跑去后面洗托盘。出来时，小开对我说：“我还以为是什么大事呢。其实人家根本就不用我提醒，到点自己就走了。他只是无家可归而已，又不是不要脸。而且根本都没影响她什么。你说她有什么可投诉的？”
此后，他每个周末都去吃东西。每次都是自己付钱。每次都吃得很慢，但是吃得很干净。而且从不影响其他人进食，他只是安静地待在角落里吃他的东西，从不四处乱走，身上也并没有异味。离开之后他坐过的桌子，椅子，附近的地板全都收拾得干干净净，一点食物残渣都不会有，甚至连碗碟都替我送回去，完全不用我帮他收拾，从头到尾就好像他没去过一样。让我颇为感动。
然而有些受过教育的洋人甚至华人，去吃东西，就像商场里的食物不要钱一样，一去就是一大帮，喧哗吵闹，拼几张桌子不说，走了以后满桌残渣，地板上全是汤汤水水之类的，就更不要提那些铺天盖地的面条、饭粒及酱汁了。每次一看见就心生恐惧，疑心自己会累死在这破商场里。
再后来常常会在街上看见他。骑辆小破单车，车上满缚他的“行李”。悠然的在自行车道上骑着。表情看来甚至十分惬意。
我往往感动于这样的细节之美。所以我常说，会替他人着想的人，总能在第一时间博得我的好感。然而这世上以貌取人的人，还是太多太多。
